The Lebed Method is a medical exercise and dance programme that was originally developed for those who have been diagnosed with cancer and are currently or have in the past received radiation or chemotherapy.
Music, fun and meeting other participants are key components of The Lebed Method. A class lasts 60 minutes with two short water breaks. Each class starts with a 15 minute lymphatic warm-up. This is followed by short exercise routines and dances which are set to uplifting music. Props are often used in class - which other medically controlled exercise programme uses leis, feather boas or lets you blow bubbles?
The Lebed Method helps to improve range of movement, relieve ‘frozen shoulder’, reduce neck and shoulder pain, improve balance and stabilise weight. Two US studies have also shown The Lebed Method to effectively manage lymphoedema. Participants also report improved self image, more energy and less anxiety and depression.
Although the Lebed Method was originally designed for breast cancer patients, it is beneficial for those with other cancers, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, arthritic and rheumatoid conditions, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease, depression and anyone with chronic conditions.
The Lebed Method is suitable for all ages and fitness levels as participants can take part either standing or sitting. Men and women can participate.
